About The Fence Repair Guys of Annapolis
We have spent about five years fixing fences across Anne Arundel County, Annapolis included. The Annapolis shop is our third location, and it puts a crew right in town, close to the water towns, the Broadneck peninsula, South County and Kent Island, with the same repair-first approach on wood, vinyl, aluminum and chain link.
A Crew Based Right in Annapolis
The company has been repairing fences across Anne Arundel County for about five years, and Annapolis has been part of that work the whole time. Over those years a pattern showed up in the calls from around the city. They came from Eastport and Hillsmere, from Cape St. Claire and Arnold, from Edgewater, Mayo and Shady Side, and more and more from across the Bay Bridge on Kent Island.
Those jobs had a lot in common. Hardware eaten by salt air. Posts soft at grade on lots where the water table sits close to the surface. Fences flattened by wind coming straight off the Bay. Approvals that depended on whether the house was in the historic district, in the Critical Area, or inside a community with its own fence standards.
The Annapolis shop is the third location of The Fence Repair Guys, and it was set up for exactly that work. It keeps a crew and a stock of posts, rails, pickets and corrosion-resistant hardware in Annapolis itself, close to the necks and peninsulas those calls come from. Coming back to hang a gate after concrete cures, or to stain a repair once the new wood dries, is a short trip instead of a long one. The location is new. The methods are the ones the company has used for five years.

Materials and Hardware Chosen for the Water
A fence near the Bay does not usually fail because the boards wear out. It fails because the small steel parts holding it together corrode, or because the posts sit in wet ground. So most of our decisions on a job come down to hardware and posts.
Every screw, hinge, latch and bracket we put on a fence here is stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized. Bright zinc-plated screws from a general hardware bin can show rust within a season this close to salt water, and once a fastener rusts, the wood around it softens and the picket loosens. On aluminum fences we keep plain steel away from the aluminum entirely, since the two together corrode faster at the contact point.
Posts go in on a gravel base so groundwater drains away from the end grain, with concrete crowned above grade so rain sheds off. On a creek lot with soft soil, we dig deeper rather than trusting the top layer.
When a fence is too far gone, The Fence Repair Guys of Annapolis walks through the materials with you: aluminum for open views and pools, vinyl for privacy without painting, wood for a traditional look, and galvanized chain link for dogs and big lots. Wood that stays gets protection from The Fence Repair Guys of Annapolis once it has dried enough to absorb it.

Working Around Docks, Gardens and Neighbors
Annapolis yards are rarely open, empty lots. There may be a garden bed planted right up to the fence, a dock path running beside it, a pool on one side, and a neighbor whose fence ties into the same corner post. We plan the job around all of it.
The first visit covers the whole fence, not just the broken part. We push on every post at grade, check each hinge and latch for corrosion, look at how the fence meets the house, the bulkhead or the neighbor's line, and note anything that has to stay closed during the work, like a pool barrier or a dog run. If a pool is involved, we plan the order so the yard is never left open overnight.
Before digging, Miss Utility marks the public lines, and we ask about private ones running to docks, sheds and landscape lighting. We confirm historic district, permit, Critical Area and association requirements for the address before work starts. Plantings get tied back or covered where the work allows, and on narrow downtown and Eastport lots we plan how materials come in so they pass through once.
When the job is done, the old posts, broken boards, concrete chunks and fasteners leave with us, and the gate you use every day swings and latches the way it should.
