Annapolis, the Broadneck Peninsula and South County
The city itself is the center of the circle. Downtown and Murray Hill have older homes on tight lots, small courtyard fences and the extra step of the historic district. Eastport sits between Spa Creek and Back Creek, with cottages, newer infill and fences that see salt air every day. West Annapolis, Admiral Heights and the neighborhoods near Parole mix mid-century homes with newer construction, while Annapolis Neck brings waterfront communities like Hillsmere and Bay Ridge with their own beaches and associations. North across the Severn, the Broadneck peninsula runs between the Severn and the Magothy: Arnold, Cape St. Claire, Severna Park and private Gibson Island at the tip. Lots here are often wooded, so falling limbs, roots under posts and deer are as much a part of the work as water.
South County starts at the South River and runs down MD-2 and out the necks. Kent Island, Queen Anne's County and North Calvert
Across the Bay Bridge on US-50/301, Kent Island is part of Queen Anne's County. Stevensville sits near the bridge, Chester runs south and east toward Kent Narrows, and past the narrows are Grasonville and, farther along US-50/301, Queenstown. The island is low and flat with water on nearly every side, so wind off the open Bay and high water during storms are the main things wearing on fences. To the south, north Calvert County sits inside the circle too.
